As a leader in the Project Management group, you will provide purchasing expertise and direction to ensure the timely delivery of materials to maintain capacities and schedule for our manufactured products. 



  • Lead and develop a team of 2-3 buyers to support internal and external customers
  • Act as primary point of contact for all purchased project material discussions
  • Responsible for all functions of the project purchased materials buying team
  • Work with vendors to establish competitive pricing/new sources for materials that do not have a preferred/strategic supplier with a Total Cost of Ownership view (Line Item Price, Rebates, Early Payment Discounts)
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and Materials Management to identify strategic sourcing opportunities, items that my warrant transition from project purchase to stock, VMI or Kanban
  • Maintain strong communication with Project Management team to provide visibility of material availability
  • Purchase project material on an as needed basis to support team
  • On time buying metrics, accurate material procurement, maintaining healthy vendor relationship
  • Coordinate/organize/lead all vendor visits and associated content
  • Drive performance within team to improve results
  • Align relevant buyer metrics along with associated data collection to quantify improvements and reporting to Director of Engineering, Director of Supply Chain and team dashboard
  • Lead team strategic goals related to Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery
  • Champion individuals to lead continuous improvement initiatives within buying team
  • Ensure team members are conducting work in accordance with the governing quality manual, work instructions, procedures and standard work processes
  • Promote and lead by example in the participation of “My Ideas”, Coach, Problem Solving, Lean, Strategic Sourcing and other continuous improvement processes/initiatives applying these principles within the team to drive out waste and reduce costs
  • Develop direct reports, onboard new team members, daily, weekly, and yearly coaching of employees to build an actively engaged workforce
  • Maintain an efficient and accurate system for monitoring all open purchase orders and escalate unresolved supplier issues to Supply Chain
  • Work with the material management team to ensure that all deliveries satisfy the assigned purchase orders and report any back-ordered or missing products.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with all purchasing information and programs
  • Arranges for disposal of surplus materials
  • Participate in Supplier quality activities such as corrective action completion
  • Interface with company and supplier senior management.
  • Demonstrate excellent negotiation and presentation skills.



  • Minimum of Associates Degree or equivalent experience; Bachelors Degree preferred; certification in related field is desired
  • Minimum five years of purchasing experience


  • Highly motivated with excellent leadership skills possessing the ability to drive initiatives and produce results
  • Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to effectively align priorities to meet business needs
  • Skilled at evaluating employees’ performance in a balanced and consistent manner and providing training, direction, and support
